Ham Awry Improv Troupe
Ham Awry got its beginnings from the heart of community theatre. Our founding members, and those we have picked up along the way, continue to have strong ties to our communities. As a troupe we have been performing since 2005.
Coming from a variety of personal backgrounds and theatrical experience, our members all have a strong passion for improv and are committed to the continued development of the art. We train (NOT rehearse!) weekly and strive to be consummate professionals.

The Ham-lets
Our most important troupe members are our fans, the Ham-lets! Improv just simply can not happen without input from the audience. Whether you are just calling out suggestions from the floor or bravely jumping up stage to lend us a body part or your precious dignity, we would be remiss if we did not give you your spot under the light. It is for this reason that we include you here in the “About Us” section… after all, there would be no “Us” without YOU!
The Improvisers
Here is our current roster. Ham Awry consists of Aaron Davis, John Stuart, Martin Brochu, Brad Tones, Jennifer Moran, Harry Pering and Chris Cope.
Martin Brochu
| Martin comes to Ham Awry because he believes he may as well get some positive recognition for acting like a buffoon. Most embarrassing moment: When I was making out with a girl in upper level of the Most “gone awry” moment: Maple syrup and slip and slides… together… at the same time Once arrested for: Stealing clothes by entering the store naked and leaving dressed Before improv occupation: A clown named Hairy Chuckles… if you know what I mean Inspirations: Robin Williams & Ryan Stiles |
Aaron Davis
 | Aaron finds that Ham Awry improv gives him the opportunity to disguise his ADHD and obsessive dishonesty as talent and art.
Most embarrassing moment: Getting “frisky” with a girl, letting her tie him down with her promise of a “surprise” only to find out that the surprise was inviting in all the drunk party goers outside on a “sight seeing” trip… Most “gone awry” moment: On the back of a Harley, drunk, riding down Hastings screaming the Star Spangled Banner & waking up the next morning in an SFU single occupancy dorm room between a fuzzy pink gorilla and a Los Vegas show girl… wondering what else he did during the black out… Guilty pleasure: An undying love… or lust… for midge… um… “Little People” Inspirations: Ryan Stiles, Colin Mocery, Chris Rock, Russell Peters, Will Smith & you! |
John Stuart
 | John is a member of Ham Awry because he loves to be revered by the newer troupe members as an improv God. Most embarrassing moment: growing up in Most “gone awry” moment: John once set out to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and decided in the moment to use no jelly… no jelly at all! Most contempt for: Answering stupid questions that someone is going to use to write his bio. Guilty pleasure: Pubic hair. Inspirations: Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, and Lon Chaney, Jr. |
Brad Tones
 | Brad lusts improv with Ham Awry because they are the only folks that give him a way to perform on a consistent basis while not being the same every night. Besides, chicks dig it!
Guilty pleasure: Breaking-wind in confined places and deeply inhaling the sweet reward! Most “gone awry” moment: Robbing a hot dog cart naked simply for the thrill of getting taken down by the cops… And what a thrill it was! Deepest secret: An “unholy” obsession with tigers due to the theory that they are aggressive and fun in the sack. Favourite unit of measurement: Six inches of adequacy. Inspirations: Ryan Stiles, Charlie Sheen and Brad Tones. |

Jennifer Moran
 | Jennifer loves improv with Ham Awry because she gets to be a big kid, play for hours on end & make an audience laugh their heads off! She also loves being the troupe’s “token girl”. If given the chance, she would: Get a sex change, become a “Queen” & then have Camilla Parker Bowles & Prince Charles locked away in the Most “gone awry” moment: Speeding down a dirt road in a torrential downpour in Once arrested for: Tampering with evidence from the OJ Simpson trial. Before improv occupation: Entrepreneur. She used to help women in prison looking for their soulmate, not an inmate. Inspirations: Wayne Brady, Colin Mocery, Ryan Stiles, Dana Carvey & Aaron Davis. |
Harry Pering
| Harry’s desire to become part of Ham Awry is his love for the art, the fun he has at it and his need to make people laugh. Most embarrassing moment: Playing floor hockey when I was younger, I thought I had my shorts on under my pants, took my pants off and they weren't there Most “gone awry” moment: It involved uppers… He thought he was so damn high on life… turned out to be a spiked drink intended for a French girl named Mimi… Biggest turn on: The girl I love, my Lord of the rings DVD's and a life time supply of Quik Favourite kitchen appliance: A blender, cause it reminds him of his love of stirring the $#@*! Inspirations: Colin Mocery, Ryan Stiles & Wayne Brady |
William Cardno
 | William is a member of Ham Awry because they are the only folks who call him William and not Chris. Most revealing moment: Being picked up and taken home from the Albion Ferry by a cute boy in a horse and carriage. Most “gone awry” moment: Joining an improv troupe full of rainbow-challenged crazy people who keep using the word “gay” in place of “dumb”… straight people… jeesh! Most contempt for: Religion... but religion contempts him back! Guilty pleasure: Rainbows… no guilt though... Inspirations: REM |
Chris Cope
 | Chris is not quite sure what improv is but he likes that these fine people at Ham Awry don’t think he’s crazy like all those OTHER people. Most “gone awry” moment: Way back when he was a starving actor (last Thursday) he decided to try to rob a bank. Being a non-violent offender, upon walking into the bank, he simply fell to his knees and begged for a loan! Favourite possession: The motorcycle he bought with the loan (see above). Guilty pleasure: Missing improv training sessions on Sundays. If he could “make it” with an animal: He would do it with a Koala ‘cause he just knows in his heart that they are sweet and cuddly. Inspirations: Robin Williams, Martin Brochu and Aaron Davis. |
